Understanding Certificates of Analysis (COAs)
Every batch of Root & Pestle kava undergoes rigorous laboratory analysis to ensure safety, purity, and quality. Our Certificates of Analysis (COAs) provide detailed information about each batch’s chemical composition and safety testing results.
What is a Chemotype?
A chemotype is the unique chemical fingerprint of a kava plant, showing the relative abundance of six major kavalactones. These compounds are responsible for kava’s effects, and their composition varies between cultivars. For example, a chemotype listed as “423165” indicates the relative abundance of these kavalactones in that specific order.
What’s in a COA?
Each COA includes:
- Chemotype profile – The kavalactone composition
- Total kavalactone content – Indicating potency
- Microbiological testing – Ensuring safety from contaminants
- Heavy metals testing – Confirming purity standards
